RESUMO

The B-box (BBX) gene family includes zinc finger protein transcription factors that regulate a multitude of physiological and developmental processes in plants. While BBX gene families have been previously determined in various plants, the members and roles of peanut BBXs are largely unknown. In this research, on the basis of the genome-wide identification of BBXs in three peanut species (Arachis hypogaea, A. duranensis, and A. ipaensis), we investigated the expression profile of the BBXs in various tissues and in response to salt and drought stresses and selected AhBBX6 for functional characterization. We identified a total of 77 BBXs in peanuts, which could be grouped into five subfamilies, with the genes from the same branch of the same subgroup having comparable exon-intron structures. In addition, a significant number of cis-regulatory elements involved in the regulation of responses to light and hormones and abiotic stresses were found in the promoter region of peanut BBXs. Based on the analysis of transcriptome data and qRT-PCR, we identified AhBBX6, AhBBX11, AhBBX13, and AhBBX38 as potential genes associated with tolerance to salt and drought. Silencing AhBBX6 using virus-induced gene silencing compromised the tolerance of peanut plants to salt and drought stresses. The results of this study provide knowledge on peanut BBXs and establish a foundation for future research into their functional roles in peanut development and stress response.

Glioblastoma (GBM), the most prevalent and aggressive primary malignant brain tumor, exhibits profound immunosuppression and demonstrates a low response rate to current immunotherapy strategies. Manganese cations (Mn2+) directly activate the cGAS/STING pathway and induce the unique catalytic synthesis of 2'3'-cGAMP to facilitate type I IFN production, thereby enhancing innate immunity. Here, a telodendrimer and Mn2+-based nanodriver (PLHM) with a small size is developed, which effectively target lymph nodes through the blood circulation and exhibit tumor-preventive effects at low doses of Mn2+ (3.7 mg kg-1). On the other hand, the PLHM nanodriver also exhibits apparent antitumor effects in GBM-bearing mice via inducing in vivo innate immune responses. The combination of PLHM with doxorubicin nanoparticles (PLHM-DOX NPs) results in superior inhibition of tumor growth in GBM-bearing mice due to the synergistic potentiation of STING pathway functionality by Mn2+ and the presence of cytoplasmic DNA. These findings demonstrate that PLHM-DOX NPs effectively stimulate innate immunity, promote dendritic cell maturation, and orchestrate cascaded infiltration of CD8 cytotoxic T lymphocytes within glioblastomas characterized by low immunogenicity. These nanodivers chelated with Mn2+ show promising potential for tumor prevention and antitumor effects on glioblastoma by activating the STING pathway.

Thermoelectrics has applications in power generation and refrigeration. Since only commercial Bi2 Te3 has a low abundance Te, PbSe gets attention. This work enhances the near-room temperature performance of p-type PbSe through enhancing carrier mobility via lattice plainification. Composition controlled and Cu-doped p-type PbSe crystals are grown through physical vapor deposition. Results exhibit an enhanced carrier mobility ≈2578 cm2  V-1  s-1 for Pb0.996 Cu0.0004 Se. Microstructure characterization and density functional theory calculations verify the introduced Cu atoms filled Pb vacancies, realizing lattice plainification and enhancing the carrier mobility. The Pb0.996 Cu0.0004 Se sample achieves a power factor ≈42 µW cm-1  K-2 and a ZT ≈ 0.7 at 300 K. The average ZT of it reaches ≈0.9 (300-573 K), resulting in a single-leg power generation efficiency of 7.1% at temperature difference of 270 K, comparable to that of p-type commercial Bi2 Te3 . A 7-pairs device paired the p-type Pb0.996 Cu0.0004 Se with the n-type commercial Bi2 Te3 shows a maximum cooling temperature difference ≈42 K with the hot side at 300 K, ≈65% of that of the commercial Bi2 Te3 device. This work highlights the potential of p-type PbSe for power generation and refrigeration near room temperature and hope to inspire researchers on replacing commercial Bi2 Te3 .

RESUMO

In this study, we successfully fabricated two ultra-rough surfaces based on polystyrene (PS) microspheres by employing the reactive ion etching (RIE) technique. Elemental analysis confirmed a stable AlF3 composition of the structures of these surfaces. We proposed the mechanism of the formation of these surfaces and performed SERS-related tests; the prepared substrates exhibited excellent SERS performance.

Aroma compounds in the roasted breasts, thighs and skins of chicken were isolated by solvent-assisted flavor evaporation (SAFE), quantitated by gas chromatography-olfactometry-mass (GC-O-MS), analyzed by aroma extract dilution analysis (AEDA), and determined by recombination-omission tests and sensory evaluation. Forty-seven aroma compounds in total, including aldehydes, ketones, furans, pyrazines, and furanones, were selected by AEDA. Twenty-five compounds were selected as pivotal odorants (Odor Activity Value, OAV ≥ 1). Twenty aroma compounds significantly were identified by recombination and omission experiments. Anethole (fennel odor) was the highest OAV (> 1843). Hexanal (grassy) and (E, E)-2,4-decadienal (meaty) were the most abundant aldehydes identified in roasted chicken. 1-octen-3-ol (mushroom), methanethiol (cabbage) and dimethyl trisulfide (areca, sulfur) were considered the key compounds of the breast and thighs of roasted chicken. Notably, furanone and pyrazines, 4-hydroxy-5-methyl-3(2H)-furanone (caramel, sweet and burning odor), 3-ethyl-2,5-dimethylpyrazine (nutty, toasty) and 2,3-dimethyl-5-ethylpyrazine (nutty, toasty) had the most significant effect on roasted chicken odor, especially in the skin.

In this study, we fabricated four different structures using single crystal silicon wafers for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) applications. For single crystal silicon, different crystal orientations exhibit different physical and chemical properties. In chemical etching, the etching speed of different crystal planes also exhibits significant differences. We first used reactive ion etching (RIE) to process the surface of the substrate, and subsequently used KOH anisotropic wet etching technology to modify the surface of silicon wafers with different crystal orientations and produced four different results. In the RIE stage in an O2 atmosphere, the (110) silicon wafer formed a hexagonal hole structure, and the (100) silicon wafer formed an inverted pyramid hole structure; however, in the RIE-treated substrates in O2 and SF6 atmosphere, the (110) silicon wafer formed a pyramid with a diamond-shaped base, and the (100) silicon wafer showed a columnar structure with a "straw hat" at the top. The formation mechanisms of these four structures were elucidated. We also performed structure-related SERS characterizations of the four different structures and compared their performance differences.

Stroke is a group of diseases resulting from cerebral vascular rupture or obstruction and subsequent brain blood circulation disorder, leading to rapid neurological deficits. Ischemic stroke accounts for the majority of all stroke cases. The current treatments for ischemic stroke mainly include t-PA thrombolytic therapy and surgical thrombectomy. However, these interventions aimed at recanalizing cerebral vessels can paradoxically lead to ischemia-reperfusion injury, which exacerbates the severity of brain damage. Minocycline, a semi-synthetic tetracycline antibiotic, has been shown to possess a wide range of neuroprotective effects independent of its antibacterial activity. Here we summarize the mechanisms underlying the protective effects of minocycline against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury based on the pathogenesis of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury, including its modulation of oxidative stress, inflammatory response, excitotoxicity, programmed cell death and blood-brain barrier injury, and also introduce the role of minocycline in alleviating stroke-related complications, in order to provide a theoretical basis for the clinical application of minocycline in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

BACKGROUND: Pneumonia is a common disease worldwide in preschool children. Despite its large population size, China has had no comprehensive study of the national prevalence, risk factors, and management of pneumonia among preschool children. We therefore investigated the prevalence of pneumonia among preschool children in Chinese seven representative cities, and explore the possible risk factors of pneumonia on children, with a view to calling the world's attention to childhood pneumonia to reduce the prevalence of childhood pneumonia. METHODS: Two group samples of 63,663 and 52,812 preschool children were recruited from 2011 and 2019 surveys, respectively. Which were derived from the cross-sectional China, Children, Homes, Health (CCHH) study using a multi-stage stratified sampling method. This survey was conducted in kindergartens in seven representative cities. Exclusion criteria were younger than 2 years old or older than 8 years old, non-permanent population, basic information such as gender, date of birth and breast feeding is incomplete. Pneumonia was determined on the basis of parents reported history of clearly diagnosed by the physician. All participants were assessed with a standard questionnaire. Risk factors for pneumonia, and association between pneumonia and other respiratory diseases were examined by multivariable-adjusted analyses done in all participants for whom data on the variables of interest were available. Disease management was evaluated by the parents' reported history of physician diagnosis, longitudinal comparison of risk factors in 2011 and 2019. RESULTS: In 2011 and 2019, 31,277 (16,152 boys and 15,125 girls) and 32,016 (16,621 boys and 15,395 girls) preschool children aged at 2-8 of permanent population completed the questionnaire, respectively, and were thus included in the final analysis. The findings showed that the age-adjusted prevalence of pneumonia in children was 32.7% in 2011 and 26.4% in 2019. In 2011, girls (odds ratio [OR] 0.91, 95%CI [confidence interval]0.87-0.96; p = 0.0002), rural (0.85, 0.73-0.99; p = 0.0387), duration of breastfeeding ≥ 6 months(0.83, 0.79-0.88; p < 0.0001), birth weight (g) ≥ 4000 (0.88, 0.80-0.97; p = 0.0125), frequency of putting bedding to sunshine (Often) (0.82, 0.71-0.94; p = 0.0049), cooking fuel type (electricity) (0.87, 0.80-0.94; p = 0.0005), indoor use air-conditioning (0.85, 0.80-0.90; p < 0.0001) were associated with a reduced risk of childhood pneumonia. Age (4-6) (1.11, 1.03-1.20; p = 0.0052), parental smoking (one) (1.12, 1.07-1.18; p < 0.0001), used antibiotics (2.71, 2.52-2.90; p < 0.0001), history of parental allergy (one and two) (1.21, 1.12-1.32; p < 0.0001 and 1.33, 1.04-1.69; p = 0.0203), indoor dampness (1.24, 1.15-1.33; p < 0.0001), home interior decoration (1.11, 1.04-1.19; p = 0.0013), Wall painting materials (Paint) (1.16, 1.04-1.29; p = 0.0084), flooring materials (Laminate / Composite wood) (1.08, 1.02-1.16; p = 0.0126), indoor heating mode(Central heating)(1.18, 1.07-1.30, p = 0.0090), asthma (2.38, 2.17-2.61; p < 0.0001), allergic rhinitis (1.36, 1.25-1.47; p < 0.0001), wheezing (1.64, 1.55-1.74; p < 0.0001) were associated with an elevated risk of childhood pneumonia; pneumonia was associated with an elevated risk of childhood asthma (2.53, 2.31-2.78; p < 0.0001), allergic rhinitis (1.41, 1.29-1.53; p < 0.0001) and wheezing (1.64, 1.55-1.74; p < 0.0001). In 2019, girls (0.92, 0.87-0.97; p = 0.0019), duration of breastfeeding ≥ 6 months (0.92, 0.87-0.97; p = 0.0031), used antibiotics (0.22, 0.21-0.24; p < 0.0001), cooking fuel type (Other) (0.40, 0.23-0.63; p = 0.0003), indoor use air-conditioning (0.89, 0.83-0.95; p = 0.0009) were associated with a reduced risk of childhood pneumonia. Urbanisation (Suburb) (1.10, 1.02-1.18; p = 0.0093), premature birth (1.29, 1.08-1.55; p = 0.0051), birth weight (g) < 2500 (1.17, 1.02-1.35; p = 0.0284), parental smoking (1.30, 1.23-1.38; p < 0.0001), history of parental asthma (One) (1.23, 1.03-1.46; p = 0.0202), history of parental allergy (one and two) (1.20, 1.13-1.27; p < 0.0001 and 1.22, 1.08-1.37; p = 0.0014), cooking fuel type (Coal) (1.58, 1.02-2.52; p = 0.0356), indoor dampness (1.16, 1.08-1.24; p < 0.0001), asthma (1.88, 1.64-2.15; p < 0.0001), allergic rhinitis (1.57, 1.45-1.69; p < 0.0001), wheezing (2.43, 2.20-2.68; p < 0.0001) were associated with an elevated risk of childhood pneumonia; pneumonia was associated with an elevated risk of childhood asthma (1.96, 1.72-2.25; p < 0.0001), allergic rhinitis (1.60, 1.48-1.73; p < 0.0001) and wheezing (2.49, 2.25-2.75; p < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: Pneumonia is prevalent among preschool children in China, and it affects other childhood respiratory diseases. Although the prevalence of pneumonia in Chinese children shows a decreasing trend in 2019 compared to 2011, a well-established management system is still needed to further reduce the prevalence of pneumonia and reduce the burden of disease in children.

Background: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is a critical clinical disease with high disability and mortality rates. Early identification and treatment of DPN is critical. Our aim was to train and externally validate a prediction nomogram for early prediction of DPN. Methods: 3012 patients with T2DM were retrospectively studied. These patients were hospitalized between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2020 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University in Xinjiang, China. A total of 901 patients with T2DM from the Suzhou BenQ Hospital in Jiangsu, China who were hospitalized between 1 January 2019 and 31 December 2020 were considered for external validation. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and multivariate logistic regression were performed to identify independent predictors and establish a nomogram to predict the occurrence of DPN. The performance of the nomogram was evaluated using a receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), a calibration curve, and a decision curve analysis (DCA). Findings: Age, 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 [25(OH)D3], Duration of T2DM, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), and fasting blood glucose (FBG) were used to establish a nomogram model for predicting the risk of DPN. In the training and validation cohorts, the areas under the curve of the nomogram constructed from the above six factors were 0.8256 (95% CI: 0.8104-0.8408) and 0.8608 (95% CI: 0.8376-0.8840), respectively. The nomogram demonstrated excellent performance in the calibration curve and DCA. Interpretation: This study has developed and externally validated a nomogram model which exhibits good predictive ability in assessing DPN risk among the type 2 diabetes population. It provided clinicians with an accurate and effective tool for the early prediction and timely management of DPN.

The oxidation process of soybean oil (SBO) during frying fish cakes was investigated. The TOTOX value of before frying (BF) and after frying (AF) was significantly higher than control (CK). However, the total polar compound (TPC) content of AF reached 27.67% in frying oil continuously frying at 180℃ for 18 h, and 26.17% for CK. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) loss in isooctane and methanol significantly decreased with the extension of frying time and then tended to be stable. The decrease of DPPH loss was related to the increase of TPC content. Antioxidant and prooxidant balance (APB) value below 0.5 was obtained after 12 h for heated oil. (E)-2-alkenals, (E, E)-2,4-alkadienals, and n-alkanals were dominant ingredients among the secondary oxidation products. Traces of monoglycerides (MAG) and diglycerides (DAG) were also detected. These results may improve our understanding of the oxidation deterioration in SBO during frying.

To investigate the prevalence and indoor environmental influencing factors of wheeze and asthma among preschool children in Urumqi, Xinjiang, China to provide a strong basis for prevention and control. In August 2019, a cross-sectional study involving 8153 preschool children was conducted in 60 kindergartens in Urumqi. The ALLHOME-2 questionnaire was used for childhood wheeze and asthma survey, and the dampness in buildings and health (DBH) questionnaire was used for the childhood home dwelling and living environment survey. Multivariate unconditional logistic regression was then used to analyze the potential influencing factors of childhood asthma and wheeze. The prevalence of wheeze and asthma in children was 4.7% and 2.0%, respectively. Multivariate unconditional logistic regression results suggested that ethnicity other than the Han Chinese (odds ratio (OR) 1.39, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.05-1.84), caesarean section (OR 1.24, 95% CI 1.00-1.53), family history of asthma (OR 5.00, 95% CI 3.36-7.44), carpet or floor bedding at home (OR 1.40, 95% CI 1.05-1.87), purchasing new furniture in the mother's residence during pregnancy (OR 1.58, 95% CI 1.06-2.36), pet keeping in the residence at aged 0-1 year (OR 1.55, 95% CI 1.13-2.13), passive smoking by child in the current residence (OR 1.35, 95% CI 1.01-1.80), and having mould or hygroma in the child's residence at aged 0-1 year (OR 1.72, 95% CI 1.12-2.64) were risk factors for wheeze. In addition, Girls (OR 0.73, 95% CI 0.59-0.90) was a protective factor for wheeze. Caesarean section (OR 1.46, 95% CI 1.06-2.00), family history of asthma (OR 7.06, 95% CI 4.33-11.53), carpet or floor bedding at home (OR 2.20, 95% CI 1.50-3.23), and pet keeping in the residence at aged 0-1 year (OR 1.64, 95% CI 1.04-1.83) were risk factors for asthma, whereas Girls (OR 0.58, 95% CI 0.42-0.80) was a protective factor for asthma. This survey indicates that the purchase of new furniture, the placement of carpet or floor bedding in the child's residence, the pets keeping, room dampness or moldy phenomena, and passive smoking may all contribute to an elevated risk of wheeze or asthma in children.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the indoor environmental risk factors to provide measures for the prevention and control of otitis in preschool children. METHOD: In this cross-sectional study, a questionnaire survey was administered to preschool children aged 2-7 years from 60 kindergartens in six districts of Urumqi City in August 2019. Multiple regression was run to predict influence factors for otitis media in preschool children. RESULT: A total of 8153 valid questionnaires were collected. After adjusting for age, the prevalence of otitis among preschool children in Urumqi was 13.1%. Multivariate logistic regression showed that previous antibiotic treatment, treatment with one to two antibiotics before 1 year of age, presence of walls with aqueous or latex paint, use of carpet floor bedding in rooms, newly decorated homes of mothers before pregnancy, purchase of new furniture for homes of children at 0-1 year of age, and presence of flowering plants in the residence of children at 0-1 years of age were all identified as risk factors for the development of otitis in children. CONCLUSION: Parents should also pay attention to indoor living environments, and reduce indoor renovation in the homes of children during their growth and development, which can positively improve children's indoor living environment, thus effectively preventing otitis in preschool children.

CONCLUSIONS: The focus of allergic rhinitis should be on children with a family history of AR and asthma and cesarean delivery. Primary prevention efforts for AR in preschool children are avoiding exposure of children to indoor environmental hazardous factors early in life.

Abstract Objective To investigate the indoor environmental risk factors to provide measures for the prevention and control of otitis in preschool children. Method In this cross-sectional study, a questionnaire survey was administered to preschool children aged 2-7 years from 60 kindergartens in six districts of Urumqi City in August 2019. Multiple regression was run to predict influence factors for otitis media in preschool children. Result A total of 8153 valid questionnaires were collected. After adjusting for age, the prevalence of otitis among preschool children in Urumqi was 13.1%. Multivariate logistic regression showed that previous antibiotic treatment, treatment with one to two antibiotics before 1 year of age, presence of walls with aqueous or latex paint, use of carpet floor bedding in rooms, newly decorated homes of mothers before pregnancy, purchase of new furniture for homes of children at 0-1 year of age, and presence of flowering plants in the residence of children at 0-1 years of age were all identified as risk factors for the development of otitis in children. Conclusion Parents should also pay attention to indoor living environments, and reduce indoor renovation in the homes of children during their growth and development, which can positively improve children's indoor living environment, thus effectively preventing otitis in preschool children.

Wireless sensor network deployment should be optimized to maximize network coverage. The D-S evidence theory is an effective means of information fusion that can handle not only uncertainty and inconsistency, but also ambiguity and instability. This work develops a node sensing probability model based on D-S evidence. When there are major evidence disputes, the priority factor is introduced to reassign the sensing probability, with the purpose of addressing the issue of the traditional D-S evidence theory aggregation rule not conforming to the actual scenario and producing an erroneous result. For optimizing node deployment, a virtual force-directed particle swarm optimization approach is proposed, and the optimization goal is to maximize network coverage. The approach employs the virtual force algorithm, whose virtual forces are fine-tuned by the sensing probability. The sensing probability is fused by D-S evidence to drive particle swarm evolution and accelerate convergence. The simulation results show that the virtual force-directed particle swarm optimization approach improves network coverage while taking less time.

With the development of laser metrology, the dual-comb system has natural superiority in the measuring fields. Specifically, distance and velocity represent a basic state for the target in space. We propose an application mode of the dual-comb interferometry integrated into the field programmable gate array. A high-speed parallel processor truly gives full play to the benefit of the data processing rate. The algorithm of the peak extraction and the address matching also bring an efficient working mode into the whole scheme. To verify the performance of this system, we devise a series of experiments for distance and velocity, respectively. The data processing rate of the distance is 425 Hz and that of the corresponding average velocity is 0.425 Hz, which is flexible for different measuring conditions. The experimental results show that the difference can be well within 252.8 µm at 5 m range and 284.9 µm/s over 0.5 m/s.

Great progress has been achieved in p-type SnS thermoelectric compound recently, while the stagnation of the n-type counterpart hinders the construction of thermoelectric devices. Herein, n-type sulfide PbSnS2 with isostructural to SnS is obtained through Pb alloying and achieves a maximum ZT of ~1.2 and an average ZT of ~0.75 within 300-773 K, which originates from enhanced power factor and intrinsically ultralow thermal conductivity. Combining the optimized carrier concentration by Cl doping and enlarged Seebeck coefficient through activating multiple conduction bands evolutions with temperature, favorable power factors are maintained. Besides, the electron doping stabilizes the phase of PbSnS2 and the complex-crystal-structure induced strong anharmonicity results in ultralow lattice thermal conductivity. Moreover, a maximum power generation efficiency of ~2.7% can be acquired in a single-leg device. Our study develops a n-type sulfide PbSnS2 with high performance, which is a potential candidate to match the excellent p-type SnS.

Thermoelectric generators enable the conversion of waste heat to electricity, which is an effective way to alleviate the global energy crisis. However, the inefficiency of thermoelectric materials is the main obstacle for realizing their widespread applications and thus developing materials with high thermoelectric performance is urgent. Here we show that multiple valence bands and strong phonon scattering can be realized simultaneously in p-type PbSe through the incorporation of AgInSe2. The multiple valleys enable large weighted mobility, indicating enhanced electrical properties. Abundant nano-scale precipitates and dislocations result in strong phonon scattering and thus ultralow lattice thermal conductivity. Consequently, we achieve an exceptional ZT of ~ 1.9 at 873 K in p-type PbSe. This work demonstrates that a combination of band manipulation and microstructure engineering can be realized by tuning the composition, which is expected to be a general strategy for improving the thermoelectric performance in bulk materials.

This study investigated the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in fish cakes under air frying, deep frying, pan frying and baking. The results showed that the AGEs contents on the surface of fish cakes significantly increased with prolonging heating time. The AGEs contents under different methods were following: deep frying > air frying ≈ pan frying > baking. However, the AGEs contents in the interior of fish cakes were hardly influenced by the methods and time. The correlation analysis showed that the AGEs contents were negatively correlated with the moisture content, positively correlated with the yellowness (b*) value, oil content and oxidation products. Additionally, the air-fried fish cake exhibited a denser texture compared to the others, and its colour was similar to the deep-fried ones. Conclusively, the air-fried fish cake showed low oil and AGEs contents, and similar colour to the deep-fried fish cake.
